Louisiana EV Charger Rebates and Tax Credits

Louisiana EV Charger Rebates and Tax Credits

May 1, 2026 Trinitas All Electric

Having an EV charger added to your home can bring about many benefits for transportation. But that isn't the only benefit Level 2 EV chargers can include. EV chargers can also bring about some tax and incentive benefits as well. But what are these benefits exactly, and how can they apply?

Federal Tax Credit

Firstly, there are some benefits in owning EVs and EV chargers on the federal level. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, federal tax credits were available on new, used, and commercial clean vehicles acquired before September 30, 2025. This also included alternative fuel refueling infrastructure placed in service before June 30, 2026. Meaning a federal tax credit for installing EV chargers. According to the IRS, if an EV charger was purchased and installed on a homeowner's property before June 30, 2026, the tax credit equals 30% of the cost, up to a maximum credit of $1,000 per charging port.

Qualifiers and Disqualifiers

It's important to note that there are certain requirements for qualifying for these tax credits. First of all, the qualification of homeowners and businesses for an EV charger installation tax credit (30C) is entirely dependent on the location of the installation, as well as being installed by June 30, 2026:

  • Homeowners have to install the EV charger at their primary residence, which has to be located within a qualified census tract.
  • Businesses have to install the chargers in eligible non-urban or low-income areas.

On the other hand, there are also factors that could disqualify a person from getting the EV charger tax credit (30C):

  • If the installation isn't located in an eligible low-income or non-urban census tract
  • If the installation is not made within the tax year
  • Installing it on a secondary home
  • Using non-UL-certified equipment
  • Having insufficient tax liability in order to claim the credit

Louisiana EV Incentives

However, on the statewide level, Louisiana does not offer any state-level tax credits or rebates for purchasing electric vehicles. And although there is no official Louisiana EV charger rebate or tax credit, there are incentives and savings benefits for home charging infrastructure (EV chargers). Multiple different utility providers in Louisiana offer incentives for installing EV charging stations. These include Entergy, SWEPCO, and Cleco Power.

  • Entergy EV Charger Rebate: Entergy Louisiana rebates for installing an EV charger for their customers. This is about $250 in rebates for installing a qualified Level 2 EV charger on a residential property. They offer about $750-$1,500 for DC fast chargers for their commercial customers.
  • SWEPCO EV Charger Rebate: SWEPCO also offers rebates for their residential customers. For residential properties, this is around a $250 rebate for installing a qualified Level 2 EV charging station.
  • Cleco EV Charger Rebate: Cleco also offers a $250 rebate for their residential customers when they install a Level 2 charger in their home.

Conclusion

Installing a Level 2 EV charger in your home gives more than just efficiency and practical benefits for EV owners. Installing an EV charger in homes can also bring certain tax and other incentive benefits. On the federal level, there are federal tax credits available to homeowners, commercial property owners, and other groups that install Level 2 chargers before June 30, 2026. On the Louisiana/state-level, there are no official tax credits offered, but there are incentives (rebates) offered by local utility companies (such as Cleco or Entergy).
